Shukria Hameedi

Shukria Hameedi is a dedicated young Afghan artist whose musical journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As one of the few female classical guitarists in Afghanistan, she has not only mastered this challenging instrument but has also become a true virtuoso in playing the Qashqarcha, a unique and mesmerizing instrument known only in the northern region of Afghanistan.

Despite facing numerous obstacles in her path, Shukria’s unwavering dedication and passion for music have propelled her to remarkable heights. Her story began in the AFCECO orphanages, where she discovered her love for music and nurtured her talents. Guided by her indomitable spirit, Shukria embarked on a remarkable journey of musical education at the prestigious Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM).

What sets Shukria apart is not just her exceptional talent, but also her deep-rooted commitment to using her gift as a source of solace and inspiration for others, especially Afghan girls. Drawing from the invaluable values of compassion and respect instilled in her during her time at AFCECO, Shukria embodies the true essence of a courageous artist.

As a proud member of the renowned Zohra Orchestra, Afghanistan’s first all-female ensemble, Shukria has captivated audiences across various countries. Through her performances, she showcases the rich tapestry of Afghan music, breaking down barriers and shattering stereotypes along the way. Shukria’s music is a powerful tool for promoting female empowerment and challenging societal norms.

Marzia Anwari

Marzia Anwari is a committed young Afghan violist. As one of the conductors for the Zohra Orchestra, Afghanistan’s first all-female ensemble, she has proven herself to be an extraordinary talent. Despite her tender age, Marzia stands as one of the youngest professional musicians to emerge from Afghanistan, embodying a spirit of determination and artistic brilliance.

Marzia’s journey began in the remote village of Takhar province in Northern Afghanistan. At a very young age, she found refuge and hope in the AFCECO orphanages, where her passion for music began to flourish. Guided by her unwavering dedication, she honed her skills at Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), where she embraced the transformative power of music.

However, the tragic events of August 15, 2021, cast a dark cloud over Marzia’s homeland. As the Taliban seized control and imposed severe restrictions, including the ban on music education, Marzia made a courageous decision. She fled to Qatar, seeking a safe haven from where she could continue her musical journey. With unwavering determination, she set her sights on resettling in Portugal, where she could pursue her passion freely.

In 2022, a remarkable opportunity graced Marzia’s path, as she and her fellow classmates had the privilege of performing and playing music with the legendary Yo-Yo Ma during his visit to the Afghan music school in Portugal. This extraordinary experience not only showcased Marzia’s exceptional talent but also underscored her unwavering commitment to her craft, even in the face of adversity.

Currently, Marzia finds herself in Germany, immersing herself in the pursuit of music and general studies to complete her education. Her resilience, perseverance, and thirst for knowledge serve as a testament to her extraordinary character and unwavering determination to overcome any obstacle in her path.

Samir Omari is an extraordinary singer and guitarist hailing from the enchanting city of Mazar-e Sharif, nestled in the Balkh province of Afghanistan. For the past six years, he has captivated audiences with his mesmerizing talent and soul-stirring melodies.

Throughout his career, Samir has graced numerous stages and enchanted listeners at a variety of occasions, both within Afghanistan and across the border in Pakistan. His performances have transcended cultural boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on all who have had the privilege of hearing his music.

However, the recent circumstances in Afghanistan have cast a shadow over Samir’s artistic journey. Despite his deep love for music, he finds himself in a situation where he must conceal his instrument and hide his passion for his own safety. Waheedullah Murad

Wahidullah Murad is an extraordinary and multi-talented musician hailing from the culturally rich Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. His journey in music began as a saxophonist, showcasing his versatility and talent. However, his musical prowess extends far beyond a single instrument, as he adeptly plays a range of traditional Afghan instruments, including the rubab, tabla, harmonium, daf, and Zirbaghali.

As a member of the esteemed Pamir music folk band, Wahidullah represented the vibrant musical heritage of the northern region of Afghanistan. His contributions to the band brought the soul-stirring melodies of his homeland to audiences near and far, captivating listeners with the rich tapestry of Afghan music.

Currently, Wahidullah resides in Pakistan as an active member of the Afghan diaspora. Zaki Ahmad Nazari, also known as Zaki Darya, is a young and talented Afghan musician who carries within him the spirit of resilience and a passion for artistic expression. Born into an open-minded and educated Afghan family on 3 July 2003 in Kabul, Zaki has emerged as a singer, composer, guitarist, and pianist, captivating audiences with his exceptional talent.

In the wake of the Taliban’s takeover, Zaki made the difficult decision to flee Afghanistan alongside the ANIM community, seeking refuge and a new beginning in Germany. Throughout his journey, his love for music and singing has remained unwavering, serving as a beacon of hope during challenging times.

Zaki’s musical journey began during his childhood, where his innate curiosity and passion for music sparked a deep interest in the art form. He nurtured his talent and honed his skills at Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM). It was at ANIM that he discovered his affinity for the piano, using it as a foundation to further develop his musical abilities.

Throughout his career, Zaki has been blessed with an incredible support system consisting of a devoted network of family and friends who have stood firmly by his side, providing unwavering encouragement and support. Their belief in his artistic path has fueled his determination to overcome challenges and create a lasting impact through his music.

Zaki’s artistic prowess has taken him to numerous regional countries, where he has proudly represented Afghan music on various prestigious platforms. From captivating concerts to vibrant festivals, his performances have resonated with audiences across Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), spreading the cultural richness and beauty of Afghan music far and wide.

Gvantsa Butskhrikize

Gvantsa Butskhrikize was born in 2002 in Kutaisi, Georgia. She started studying violin in the M.Balanchivadze Musical School, in the Orchestra department. Gvantsa is the recipient of numerous awards around the world: She won a scholarship from an Art Academy and was awarded First Place in a competition, being chosen as the Judges’ Favorite contestant.
She is also a winner of an international contest and is a grant recipient of a contest held in Turkey. She won 1st Place in the “ Find Your Star” contest. Gvantsa has held three solo concerts and has participated as an invited special guest in concerts in different regions. She has played with Sinfonietta Orchestra and received First Place in the International Contest of young musicians. In 2019 she participated in the International Contest “American Protégé” and won First Place. She had a Gala concert at Carnegie Hall. In 2021, she won First Place at the International Contest O.Taktakishvili. Gvantsa studied at Mikeladze Central Music School, under professor Manana Kantaria. In 2022 She won First Place in the “Chicago International Music Competition.” She is currently a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Rohullah Stanikzai

Born in Logar, Afghanistan, Rohullah is a gifted young violist. Rohullah was viola principal of the Afghanistan National Symphony orchestra – NSO – and a member of the South Asian Symphony Orchestra. He began learning to play the classical viola at the age of eleven. Stanikzai has been actively involved in chamber music, having performed with fellows and colleagues from the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), where he studied. Following the Taliban takeover, Rohullah fled to Qatar on November 8, 2021, aiming to resettle in Portugal with ANIM. Currently, he is in Germany and studying music and general studies.

Ebrahim Mohamadi

Santur

Ebrahim Mohammadi was born in Afghanistan and grew up in Iran. He learned Santur back in Iran. After studying Santur for many years in a professional manner He began teaching in Iran.

In 2019 Ebrahim returned to Afghanistan with his family to his homeland Herat, Afghanistan.

After finding out about Afghanistan’s only music School, Ebrahim was asked to teach Santur at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music for a while as a guest teacher.

While he was teaching he found a lot in Afghan Music and discovered how Afghan music is ancient and colorful. Then Ebrahim was fortunate to write a book on Afghan Folk music and songs for Santur.

After his time teaching in Kabul at ANIM, he returned back to Herat and started teaching Santur there as well.

After August 15, 2021, when the Tablian took over and banned millions of Afghans from studying music (or at all), He found his way to Qatar and aimed to resettle in Portugal with ANIM.

Ebrahim is working hard and hopes to make a bright future and will be able to bring peace through this great tool.

Sevinch Majidi

Sevinch Majidi is a truly inspirational young Afghan artist hailing from Faryab, Afghanistan. Her artistic journey began at a young age when she found solace and opportunity at the AFCECO (Afghan Child Education & Care Organization) orphanage in Kabul. Recognizing her immense talent and potential, she was later enrolled at Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), where she honed her skills and nurtured her passion for music.

In 2022, Sevinch was bestowed with a remarkable privilege that further elevated her musical career. Alongside her talented classmates, she had the extraordinary opportunity to perform and play music with the legendary Yo-Yo Ma during his visit to the Afghan music school in Portugal. This momentous occasion not only showcased Sevinch’s exceptional talent but also affirmed her dedication to her craft and highlighted her as a rising star in the world of music.

As the concertmaster for the Zohra Orchestra, Afghanistan’s first all-female ensemble, Sevinch has left an indelible mark on the global stage. For several years, she has passionately led the orchestra, serving as a beacon of inspiration for young Afghan artists. Through Zohra Orchestra, she has traveled to various countries, proudly representing Afghanistan’s rich musical heritage and captivating audiences worldwide. From Switzerland to Germany, England to Sweden, Portugal to India, and Slovakia, Sevinch’s performances have transcended borders, showcasing the profound talent and resilience of Afghan musicians.

Currently, Sevinch’s artistic journey has led her to the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory of Braga in Portugal, where she continues to expand her musical horizons. Her dedication to her studies and her commitment to her craft serve as an inspiration to aspiring artists, not only in Afghanistan but around the world.

Sevinch Majidi’s story is a testament to the power of music to transcend adversity and create a brighter future. Her unwavering determination, talent, and passion have allowed her to rise above the challenges she faced, becoming a shining example for young Afghan artists to follow. Leyla Gahramanova

Leyla Gahramanova, was born in Azerbaijan. Graduated from Asaf Zeynally musical college as a pianist and Baku music Academy as a vocalist. Worked and studied professionally with Azerbaijani opera singers as Fidan Hajiyeva, Khuraman Qasimova and other famous musicians and actors. Currently studying at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Finished the first year of master of music in the voice department. Leyla is fluent in 4 languages like Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian, English and currently taking classes of Italian and German languages. She is more than happy to create music and find new talents everyday, because she says “Music was born with me, music makes me stay young, and I am eager to make others love, listen, understand and enjoy their skills”.

She is not only a musician. Leyla likes to paint, knit and also she worked in Formula 1 races as a team leader in Azerbaijan and Miami. She likes to explore new things all the time.

Mohsin Noori

Mohsin Noori is a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of adversity, embodying the indomitable spirit of Afghan artists. As a talented clarinetist, composer, and self-taught guitarist, Mohsin’s artistry knows no bounds.

Born and raised in Afghanistan, Mohsin’s passion for music blossomed as he studied and learned the craft within his homeland. Following his graduation from high school, he embarked on a remarkable journey, forming a band at AFCECO, the very organization that nurtured and supported him. As the leader of his band, Mohsin and his talented companions took to the stages of Kabul, captivating audiences with their renditions of Afghan music, as well as his own mesmerizing compositions.

Mohsin’s dedication to music extended beyond his performances. He also became an instructor, sharing his knowledge of the clarinet and Western Music Theory at Afghanistan National Institute of Music. Through his teaching, he inspired countless young musicians and played a vital role in preserving and promoting Afghan musical traditions.

However, like many other Afghan musicians, Mohsin’s path took an unexpected turn after August 15, 2021. Faced with tremendous challenges and forced to leave his beloved homeland, he found solace and a new beginning in Spain. With unwavering determination, Mohsin sets his sights on furthering his education, with the ultimate goal of becoming a leader who can contribute to the rebuilding of Afghanistan through the power of music.

Even in the face of displacement, Mohsin remains committed to his artistic endeavors. Currently, he is working on an ambitious project that combines music and theater, a testament to his creativity and innovative spirit. Through his performances, he not only represents Afghanistan but also sheds light on the rich cultural heritage of his homeland to audiences in Spain and Europe.

Colombian singer, violinist, and educator Her passion is to bring people closer to art and to be a musical oasis in their desert. “I believe that one who does not know how to serve does not know how, truly, to live.” She has performed as a singer and violinist with various orchestras in Colombia, China, Mexico, and the United States. Additionally, she has been a co-founder and member of multiple classical and jazz ensembles. She has performed as The Plaintiff, Pamina, Second Lady, the First Witch, and has covered Belinda. She premiered in La Vierge Marie; from L’Enfance du Christ in Colombia
