Najib Angar, a young Afghan musician, was born into a humble peasant family belonging to a minority ethnicity that has historically faced discrimination from the ruling class. At the age of seven, Najib discovered solace and hope within the walls of the AFCECO orphanage, a nurturing sanctuary that recognized his exceptional artistic abilities. In 2011, driven by his passion, Najib pursued his dream by enrolling at the Afghanistan National Institution of Music. Although he initially studied the French Horn, he soon realized that his true calling resided in the realm of percussion, a domain that deeply resonated with his soul.
After graduating with a percussion degree, Najib fearlessly embraced collaborations with numerous bands and local musicians, expanding his musical repertoire and captivating audiences with his mesmerizing performances. From the remote provinces of Afghanistan to stages abroad, he showcased the rich cultural heritage of his war-torn nation, serving as a powerful reminder of its indomitable spirit.
Despite facing great adversity, Najib’s determination propelled him into a new chapter of his life. Following the tragic fall of Kabul to the Taliban in 2021, he sought refuge in the embracing arms of Portugal. Although resettlement presented its own challenges, Najib tenaciously poured his heart and soul into his music, undeterred by the obstacles that lay before him.
